Magdalena Małek
About me
I am an English-Polish translator, on the market since 2008. In 2013 I became a sworn English-Polish translator in Poland, registered under no. TP/155/13 in the list of sworn translators kept by the Polish Minister of Justice. Next to translations, I engage in teaching advanced English classes to lawyers and holding English-Polish translation workshops.
Education & profile
I hold a master-level degree in translation from the University of Warsaw, Faculty of Applied Linguistics, with major in English (2009). I attended several English-Polish translation workshops and courses, which touched upon English-Polish translation, law, and commerce. My professional experience includes translating for Polish courts and governmental institutions on one hand, and for private businesses and translation agencies on the other. My area of expertise extends to law, marketing, business, and related topics.
Interests
After hours, I enjoy science-fiction and fantasy literature, crime stories, and Pilates classes. I volunteer as a translator and interpreter for several Poland-based science-fiction and fantasy conventions, I also volunteer as a literary translator and translation tutor for the foreign section at Szortal.com. I have recently received an award from the International Short Story Festival for translating the short story “Safe” by Clare Wigfall into Polish. I am currently learning Swedish, with the hope of gaining another working language in the not-so-distant future.
